The story of their sponsorship to become a "race' involves cutting down whole fields of corn in one night to help them become people by performing the ritual of corn and blood. Also the fact that the claws on their feet are supposed to look like corn sickles, and there is a superstition that they come into fields and make crop circles using their toes.
