They are a secret! You have to dig them up near the breakers right where the waves are draining. The bigger ones are a bit closer to the sea, and they burrow super fast; it's best to scoop up big handfuls of sand then wait to feel them trying to dig through your fingers, which they are terrible at doing. The guaranteed way is to use hardware cloth to strain them out, but I dug these up by hand because I am lazy.

Also a raven took my burrito but my revenge was that there was gooey cheese inside and he had trouble with that.

These were two females I dug up while looking for shells. They were both gravid (the orange stuff on the one on the right is her eggs), so I had them out of the water only long enough to take the picture. They got over their fear really quick, and extended their little eyestalks and ran around on my hand. They seemed aware of how far it was to the ground and didn't seem to want to risk it until they were back in the surf, then they basically just vanished into the sand.
