Mantis shrimp have the best eyes in the animal kingdom. Each eye has trinocular vision, as opposed to taking us two eyes just to get binocular vision, they have over 12 kinds of color receptors (as opposed to the human 3), can see in both linear polarized light (like sunglasses) and circular polarized light (like 3-d glasses), and can see in both infra-red and ultraviolet spectrums. Not only that, these little guys can see microwaves. Humans can see visible light within a certain wavelength, so if the wave is too long or too short (like, again, microwaves or ultraviolet), we can't see it, but mantis shrimp can see just about every light wave imaginable. Why do they need eyes this hardcore? No one knows, but there's a fella in Germany who thinks it has something to do with mating (only the males can see circular polarized light).
